Jason Brice

I first wanted to get into the fitness field when I was 13.  I started studying training methods in order to try to get an advantage on my competitors with superior genetics when I played football. The application of what I studied and learned helped me to become a high school football all-American for Bigger Stronger, Faster Magazine in 1995. Soon my teammates started seeking my advice on training progams and I enjoyed helping them. My uncle was the first to tell me that I should consider becoming a personal trainer since I loved to study training so much and enjoyed helping others to progress. I must have heard 343 times how I would change my mind about what career field I would choose but it never changed once. When I started college at the University of Tennessee I got my first job in a health club called Court South. It was only for minimum wage and trainers were given enough respect to be nicknamed "fitness cleaners" because that's what we spent most of our time doing. It was made very clear to us that the sales people were the most important employees in the gym because "they make the money for the club and keep it going" but I was happy to be working in a health club none the less.

After graduating I worked for a few more health clubs before I ended up where I have worked for the last 7 years at the wellness center in Johnson City, TN. I started getting frustrated with my lack of business and sells skills while I watched people choose diet fads, pills, and surgery over hiring me as a trainer knowing that they were throwing away their money on things that would never work for them or would actually harm them.  This led me to joining the be better group.

GOALS REVISITED: I can end your frustration with trying to achieve your fitness goals.

GOAL FOR WORK: By the end of March 2009 I will be independant. I will be doing two group sessions per week with 10 people in each group with each participant paying $400 for three weeks. I will also be training 26 one-on-one sessions per week (6 on Monday through Thursday) and 2 on Fridays for $54.00 per session and will have a waiting list of 20 or more people.

OVERLAP GOAL: I would like to have every weekend off and also half of Fridays off. This time can be spent as personal time doing things such as going to a firing range, visiting my grand parents and helping around the family farm.

WORK GOAL SHORT: I'll be an independant professional by the end of March 2009.

OVERLAP GOAL SHORT: I'll be off every weekend.

OBJECT: A coin that I am fond of.

STATUS: EMPLOYED OR CONTRACTED

RANKING: ASPIRING

WHAT CAN YOU CONTRIBUTE: I have a very good background in strength training techniques of the former Soviet Union. I also have a lot of experience in what NOT to do when trying to get clients and making business moves!

HOW CAN OTHER MEMBERS HELP YOU: 1. Helping me with expressing ESP/UV.
2. Helping me with experiences with switching from being an employee to being independant.

ONE HOUR IS WORTH: $54.00

INCOME INCREASING IDEA: Group training with groups of around 10 people that pay $400 for three weeks where I meet with them once per week and send programs and education materials by email.

FOUR THINGS ON A DAY YOU LOVE:
1. Firing range.
2. Train one or two groups of 10 people for an hour.
3. Workout.
4. Spend a few hours with parents and grandparents.

CAREER EVOLUTION: I now am thinking of my career as something I can control instead of being at the mercy of what my center desides should be my hours, what weekends I can be off, when I get off on holidays, what I charge, etc.

A year ago I didn't think it was possible (for me anyway) to be independant of a health club or center that is calling all the shots for you. Now I am starting to believe that I can actually make it on my own within a year.
